• By the mid 1990s I started to wonder about working exclusively in the fine arts. I started and somewhat completed a children’s book entitled The Mud Cake King. It followed the day in the life of a lone boy left to entertain himself with making mud cakes. On the flip side of this work, I explored ways of merging hallmarks of childhood (ie an alphabet) with my fine artwork.

This alphabet was both a work of performance art to me and children’s illustrations. As an avatar for myself, the character in this Gay and friendly alphabet is celebrating and embracing what today is conventionally discussed as gender fluidity. For me it was how I saw myself, male, but not quite masculine.

The project remained stored and unfinished until the summer of 2023. I believe the work began either late 1994 or in 1995. At that time I managed to draw out almost all of the 26 letters of the english alphabet, but only colored-in a few. The drawings below with only a 1995 date were drawn, colored and completed that year. The balance was colored this year and have a 1995/2023 date. A few are completely new and only have a 2023 date.
