Covid in Milwaukee

The Covid-19 Pandemic shut the world down. Like many, I found myself working from home, my boyfriend laid off from his restaurant job. With two dogs all in a small apartment, naturally, there were good times and some not good times. Most importantly there was no escape. I turned instead to some drawings, both on paper and some experiments on my iPad.
It was in August, after tensions grew in the house, that I started a body of drawings, pulling out my large cache of color pencils and some Chromarama papers. Each piece was completed in one session and were sometimes charged by the emotions of the moment. Most of these felt like quick boxing matches I had with myself.

From May through June of 2020, I sketched what was around me… our two frenchies, Stanley and Oliver, Meir and myself. Sometimes I used photos, and other times, I used what I saw in the apartment. The drawings were all done with either Procreate’s Dry Brush or Thylacine Brush (named after the print of the animal), all using a purplish dark blue. The drawings were all completed on an iPad Pro 13” with an Apple gen 2 pencil, and are no larger than 3032x4032 pixels, but vary a bit in size.
