While attending Rhode Island School of Design I moved in the early summer of ‘87 to New York City. I lived at Wooster and Canal Street, and worked as an artist assistant to Saint Clair Cemin, and interned at a gallery. Against the backdrop of AIDS, I struggled to make sense of my own fears. I became drawn to critical theory and activism, and would cocoon myself in these for the next two years. Returning to Risd in the fall, my friend Steven Gendin, a handful of amazing friends and myself started up ACTUP/RI. Below is sample of drawings and doodles that capture that time.
